I used to find Mr. Bean to be offensively simple. That SE Asian adults would gather around the TV to laugh at his antics seemed simple minded.
But now I appreciate much of his humor. I’m not a fan of embarassment humor, but he does work with simple themes in an expressive way.
There is a parallel to Mr. Bean and seducing in a foreign country in which you don’t speak the language. Mr. Bean is universally understood, and so too is the core language of the seducer. You really can do a great deal with very little.
